I absolutely love to mould and paint this little pots! They are so cute and as they are quite small, you can really go to town on the colours!
The mould is from Devon Dotting. I use Herculite 2 plaster (see the Recommended materials and tools for dot art – Craft a Life for the link), which is ideal for this.
The plaster needs only 24 hours in the mould before you take it out. There is a matching pot and lid in the set – and as they are quite thin they don’t need much time after that to dry. Once removed from the mould, I suggest leaving it 24-48 hours to fully dry, and then once you have painted the basecoat with 2-3 coats, leave that also to dry for 24-48 hours to give a good firm base colour to work on.
For this base coat, I mixed the colour from red, black and grey Deco Art acrylic paints. It is the same basecoat as I used for the large bowl and the mandala stone – so check out those posts too if you like this colour!
As usual, I used a chalk pencil to make the guidelines. With these little pots, I tend to hold them in my hands when painting, so if you are going to paint the inside (which I did in this one), then leave that until last or you will constantly be putting your fingers on it which may not be free of paint!
This colour combination was inspired from the colour box from Sarah Renae Clark. I would never have chosen this combination and nearly always go quite predictable, until I bought this. It is really cool!
