Inspire Joy with this Striking Teal Tealight - Craft a Life
Read Time:1 Minute, 46 Second

This tealight holder has a metallic teal background, with gradually changing dots from white to blue to purple To make this I used the following steps.

Moulding

This tealight is moulded using Herculite 2, in a mould from Devon Dotting. I thoroughly recommend this company, they make fantastic moulds in so many shapes and sizes.

At this point, I wont describe how to mould your shape. There are loads of videos out there, along with the manufacturers instructions on what to do.

Painting

When your shape is out of the mould and has been drying for at least a week, you can paint the base colour. This is a really chunky shape, so do leave enough time or you will find the finish isn’t good or the paint doesn’t adhere well enough. The paint I used on the base of this tealight is a metallic Teal from Deco Art metallics acrylic paint range. Three coats will probably be needed to get a good depth of colour. Ensure you leave to dry well in between each coat.

I used 1 pot for this – which is a bit risky to be honest, but in this instance it was ok. I would recommend keeping your colour every other row perhaps for safety. I started with Snow white from DecoArt, with each row dotted and micro-dotted before moving on to the next.

After each row and dot, add a little of your colourway to the pot and mix well. Dot and micro-dot the next row…. and repeat! Take your time and check your spacing well. The swirl pattern you get when it goes well is really satisfying, so it is worth the patience!

A tip from my learning the hard way! … before turning over and painting the underside, let the upside dry overnight.

Seal

Once dry, seal with Deco Art acrylic matt finish.
